Around one in thirteen Australian adults, close to seven and a half per cent, live with an affective condition such as depression in any given year. In Queensland the picture is heavier still, with the most recent national mental health study finding that roughly one in four adults aged sixteen to eighty-five experienced some form of mental health condition over twelve months, and affective conditions affecting about one in twelve.

People keep saying the same thing.

One conversation in, most clients say they’ve finally been understood.

“I truly felt heard for the first time in all my life and deeply understood.”

— Simone

“When I came to Christina I was drowning in darkness… now I’m finally thriving again.”

— Shannon

“Due to her mediumship I was able to see core issues that I wasn’t able to recognise before.”

Depression can wear a lot of different faces

  • Waking already tired, as though the day has drained you before it has even begun.
  • A flatness where things you once loved, the river walks, catching up with friends, now feel like effort with no reward.
  • Snapping at people you care about, then sitting with guilt you cannot quite shake.
  • Going through the motions at work and home while feeling strangely far away from your own life.
  • A quiet longing to understand why this keeps returning, and what your heart has been carrying underneath it all.

In a big, busy city it is easy to look fine to everyone around you while feeling unseen. You do not have to keep holding it together alone.

How Christina works

How Christina works with depression

There is no pressure here to think positive or push through. Christina begins by listening to what your nervous system and your history have been carrying, sometimes for a very long time. From that honest starting point, small pockets of hope and movement tend to open up in their own time.

Safe pace

Sessions move at the speed you can manage, with room to say the hard things or simply sit quietly until words come.

Understanding the roots

Together you look beneath the symptoms at the stories, losses and patterns feeding the low mood, so change comes from real understanding rather than willpower.

Gentle steps forward

As clarity grows, Christina helps you find small, doable shifts that rebuild energy and connection without overwhelming you.

Go deeper

Want to understand depression more deeply before we talk?

This page is deliberately short. If you would like a fuller picture of how depression works and what compassionate support can look like, Christina has written a longer piece exploring it. It may help you feel more ready before you reach out.

What we can work through

Common threads in depression counselling

Depression rarely arrives on its own, and these are some of the themes that often come up in sessions.

Burnout and exhaustion

When long hours and long commutes have quietly emptied your reserves, we make space to rest and rebuild.

Loneliness and disconnection

Feeling isolated even in a crowded city is common, and it is something we can gently work with.

Loss and unspoken grief

Old losses that were never fully grieved can sit underneath low mood, and they deserve room to be felt.

Self-worth and inner criticism

We soften the harsh inner voice that tells you you are not doing enough and never quite measuring up.

Common questions

Before you book.

If your question is not here, the free 15-minute assessment is the easiest way to ask it.

Is depression counselling expensive?

Soul Counselling does not list prices on this page because the right first step costs nothing. You begin with a free 15-minute assessment, with no card details and no obligation, so you can get a genuine feel for whether working with Christina suits you before deciding anything further. It really is a nothing to lose conversation, and there is no pressure to continue if it does not feel like the right fit. When you are ready to talk about ongoing sessions, Christina will walk you through how it works so there are never any surprises.

Do I need a referral to see a counsellor?

No referral is needed to reach out. Unlike some pathways that require a doctor to refer you first, you can contact Soul Counselling directly and book your free 15-minute chat yourself. This means you can take that first step whenever you feel ready, without waiting on an appointment or paperwork. If you are already working with a GP or other support, that is welcome too, and Christina is happy to work alongside the care you already have in place.

Is there a Soul Counselling clinic in Brisbane?

There is no physical Brisbane clinic. Christina works online and by phone right across the city, from the inner suburbs like West End and Paddington out to Chermside, Carindale, Logan, Ipswich and the bayside, so wherever you are, you can be supported from home. The practice has one physical base in Southport on the Gold Coast, but Brisbane clients are seen entirely through video or phone. This keeps things flexible and means you never have to drive across town to be heard.

I do not even know where to start. Is that okay?

That is completely okay, and it is one of the most common things people say. You do not need to have your thoughts organised or a clear story ready. Often depression makes everything feel foggy and hard to put into words, and part of the work is gently untangling that together. In your first conversation you can simply say that you are struggling and unsure, and Christina will take it from there with warmth and no judgement. Starting messy is still starting.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number, because everyone arrives with a different history and different needs. Some people find a handful of sessions gives them enough clarity and relief, while others value ongoing support over a longer stretch as deeper patterns shift. Christina will never lock you into a program, and you stay in control of the pace and how often you meet. The focus is always on what genuinely helps you, rather than a set formula.

What if I feel too flat and tired to talk?

You are welcome exactly as you are, low energy and all. There is no need to perform or fill every silence. Some sessions involve very few words, and that is completely fine. Christina holds a calm, unhurried space where you can sit quietly, share only what you have the energy for, and still feel supported. Depression often steals your words and drive, so the sessions are designed to meet that reality gently rather than demand more from you than you have to give.

Can online depression counselling really help from home?

Yes, and for many people it helps more, not less. Being in your own space, without the effort of getting dressed for a waiting room or facing city traffic, often makes it easier to open up and relax into the conversation. Video and phone sessions are private and personal, and the connection with Christina is just as real as sitting in the same room. For depression especially, removing the extra hurdle of travel can be the difference between reaching out and putting it off again.

What if I am really struggling or do not feel safe right now?

Please reach out for immediate help. Counselling with Soul Counselling is supportive but it is not a crisis or emergency service. If you are in danger or thinking about ending your life, call 000 straight away, or phone Lifeline any time on 13 11 14 for free, confidential support around the clock. These services are there for exactly these moments and there is no shame in using them. Once you are safe and steadier, Christina would be glad to walk alongside you through the longer, gentler work of healing.

Depression support across Brisbane

Real support for a fast-moving river city

Brisbane keeps spreading outward, and daily life often means long drives between home, work and family across sprawling suburbs. Many people arrived here for a job or a fresh start and quietly miss their old support network, while rising living costs add a pressure that rarely lets up. In a growing capital it is easy to feel anonymous, and low mood can go unnoticed for a long time.

  • Professionals in the CBD or Fortitude Valley running on empty behind a capable front.
  • Parents out in Logan, Ipswich or Moreton Bay stretched thin by commutes and cost-of-living stress.
  • People who relocated to Brisbane for work and feel far from home and friends.
  • Anyone in the inner suburbs like Paddington, West End or the bayside who feels flat and cannot quite say why.

Sessions are held online and by phone across Brisbane and all of Australia. You can also explore all Brisbane counselling services.

No cross-city commute

Support without the drive across town

When you are already depleted, the thought of battling the M1 or the inner-city bypass to sit in a waiting room can be enough to put you off getting help at all. Brisbane traffic and distance should not stand between you and support. With online sessions, that barrier simply disappears.

Christina is a qualified counsellor, and every session happens over video or phone from wherever feels safe for you, whether that is your lounge room in Carindale or a quiet moment on a break. The pace stays gentle, and you do not need to arrive polished or with the energy to explain your whole life at once. You can begin exactly where you are.
