Anxiety is the most common mental health condition in Australia, affecting around one in six adults, close to 17.2 percent of the population. In Western Australia the picture is heavier still, with roughly 23.1 percent of people aged sixteen to eighty-five living with a mental disorder over a twelve-month period in the most recent national study, so if anxiety has a grip on you here, you are far from alone.

If any of this sounds like your days, you are welcome here

  • Your mind races ahead, rehearsing conversations, replaying mistakes and scanning for what could go wrong before it has even happened.
  • Your body carries it too, with a tight chest, a churning stomach, a racing heart or the surge of a panic wave that seems to come from nowhere.
  • You quietly avoid the things that spike the fear, saying no to plans, putting off calls or steering around situations that used to feel ordinary.
  • You hold it together on the outside and feel wrung out on the inside, because looking calm all day takes an enormous, exhausting effort.
  • Underneath the symptoms sits something older, a part of you that learned long ago it had to stay alert to feel safe.

Living in the most isolated capital in the world, far from eastern-states or overseas family, or worrying about someone while they are away on a swing, can quietly turn the background hum of anxiety up even louder.

How Christina works

How anxiety counselling with Soul Counselling works

There is no rush and no script to perform. We move at a pace that feels safe for you, making sense of what your anxiety is trying to protect you from and building steadier ground underneath it. Three gentle threads run through the work.

Understand the signal

Anxiety is a nervous system doing its job a little too well, not a personal failing. Together we get curious about your triggers and patterns, so the fear stops feeling random and starts making sense. When you understand what your body is reacting to, it loses some of its power over you.

Settle the body

Insight alone rarely calms a racing heart, so you learn practical, doable ways to soothe your nervous system in real time. We work with breath, grounding and small shifts you can use on a work site, in the car on the Mitchell Freeway or lying awake at 3am, so calm becomes something you can actually reach for.

Tend the root

Once the day-to-day feels more manageable, we can gently explore the deeper story, the old beliefs and experiences feeding the worry. This is where lasting change tends to take hold, so anxiety becomes something you understand and carry differently rather than a permanent way of living.

Go deeper

A little reading while you decide

If you are not quite ready to reach out, that is completely okay. Our blog holds honest, jargon-free writing on anxiety, panic, overthinking and the quiet toll of living far from the people you love, so you can feel understood in your own time.

A counselling conversation exploring the deeper roots of anxiety

What we can work through

The kinds of anxiety we gently work with

Anxiety wears many faces, and it rarely shows up in a tidy box. These are some of the common threads people bring to sessions, and you do not need a label or a diagnosis to begin.

Everyday worry and overthinking

When your mind will not switch off and every small decision feels loaded, we help you loosen the grip of constant worry and find room to breathe again.

Panic and the physical wave

Racing heart, tight chest and the fear it might happen again. We work gently with what panic does in the body so those moments feel less frightening and more survivable.

Social anxiety and self-doubt

If being around others leaves you scanning for judgement or replaying every word afterward, we explore where that watchfulness comes from and how to feel safer being yourself.

Work stress and burnout

Long rosters, income insecurity and the pressure of holding everything together can leave you frayed. We make space for the exhaustion under the anxiety and help you recover your footing.

About Christina

The counsellor behind Soul Counselling.

Soul Counselling was founded in 2016 by Christina Feyes, a counsellor with more than ten years of experience and a background spanning psychology, social work and human services. She is a counsellor rather than a psychologist, and she does not diagnose, prescribe or treat conditions. She simply walks alongside people across Australia, including throughout Perth and the wider WA community, offering steady, human support.

Christina blends grounded, practical counselling with a quiet intuitive sensitivity, so sessions hold both the here-and-now tools you can use straight away and the deeper layers underneath. You are met as a whole person, not a set of symptoms, and the work honours both what is practical and what is meaningful to you.

Common questions

Before you book.

If your question is not here, the free 15-minute assessment is the easiest way to ask it.

Is anxiety counselling expensive?

We do not list prices here, because the best first step costs nothing. Soul Counselling offers a free fifteen-minute assessment with no card required and no obligation, so you can talk with Christina, ask your questions and get a genuine feel for whether it suits you before deciding anything. It really is a nothing-to-lose way to begin, and it gives you space to make a choice that feels right rather than rushed.

Do I need a referral or a diagnosis to start?

No, you do not need a referral, a diagnosis or a doctor’s letter to reach out. You can contact us directly whenever you feel ready. Christina is a counsellor, not a psychologist, so she does not diagnose or treat conditions, and you do not need a label to be worthy of support. If worry, overwhelm or panic are affecting your days, that is reason enough to begin a conversation.

Is there a Soul Counselling clinic in Perth?

There is no Perth clinic. Soul Counselling works online and by phone right across Perth and Western Australia, so wherever you are, from the CBD to Mandurah, Midland or the Perth Hills, you can be supported from home. Our only physical base is in Southport on the Gold Coast, but Perth clients are seen entirely through secure video and phone sessions, which most people find comfortable and easy to settle into.

Does online counselling really help with anxiety and panic?

Yes. Many people find online and phone counselling especially helpful for anxiety, because you can attend from a space where you already feel safe, without the added stress of travel or a waiting room. The connection is warm and personal, and the practical tools for calming a racing mind or a panic wave work just as well through a screen. For a lot of Perth clients, being at home actually makes it easier to open up.

Can this fit around a FIFO roster or shift work?

We understand how demanding swings and rotating shifts can be, and sessions are arranged to work around your roster rather than against it. Because everything is online or by phone, you can connect from a remote site, a donga or home between swings without losing travel time. If your schedule shifts, we do our best to be flexible, so support stays available even when your working life is anything but predictable.

Where do I even start if I am feeling overwhelmed?

The simplest place to start is the free fifteen-minute assessment. You do not need to prepare anything or explain it perfectly. You can just say you have been struggling with anxiety, and Christina will take it gently from there. That first conversation is about listening and helping you feel understood, not about pressure or commitment. From there, you can decide together what kind of ongoing support, if any, feels right for you.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no fixed number, because everyone’s story and pace are different. Some people feel steadier after a handful of sessions focused on practical tools, while others choose to stay longer to explore the deeper roots of their anxiety. We check in as we go and let your needs guide the journey, so you are never locked into a rigid plan. The aim is always for you to feel more capable and more yourself.

What if I am in crisis or need urgent help right now?

Soul Counselling is not a crisis or emergency service, and Christina cannot provide immediate crisis care. If you are in danger or need urgent support, please reach out now. You can call Lifeline on 13 11 14 or Beyond Blue on 1300 22 4636, both available around the clock, and in an emergency always call 000. These services are there for you at any hour, and reaching out to them is a strong and caring thing to do for yourself.

When you are ready, a gentle first step is waiting

You do not have to have the right words or a clear plan to begin. A free fifteen-minute assessment gives you the chance to talk, ask questions and feel whether this is a fit, with no card required and no obligation. There is genuinely nothing to lose, and a calmer, more supported chapter to gain. Call 0479 144 561 when you feel ready.

Anxiety support across Perth

Anxiety in the most isolated capital in the world

Perth is often called the most remote capital city on earth, and that distance can carry a quiet emotional weight. Being hours or oceans away from eastern-states and overseas family can leave a background loneliness that feeds anxiety, especially when a large resources and FIFO workforce lives with boom-and-bust income insecurity, gruelling rosters and relationships stretched thin across swings. Add rising cost-of-living and housing pressure, and it is no wonder so many minds are running hot.

  • Loneliness and worry that build from living far from the people you love.
  • Financial anxiety tied to the ups and downs of resources and mining income.
  • The strain of long rosters, night shifts and time apart on a partner or family.
  • Everyday pressure from housing costs and the demands of a busy Perth life.

Sessions are held online and by phone across Perth and all of Australia. You can also explore all Perth counselling services.

Support that fits your life

Counselling that works around a FIFO roster or a full-on week

Anxiety does not wait for a convenient time, and neither should support. Whether you are on a swing at a remote site, back home in Joondalup or Rockingham, or squeezing a session between shifts, online and phone counselling meets you where you actually are.

Christina is a qualified counsellor offering sessions entirely online, so there is no clinic to drive to and no waiting room. You leave each session with practical, nervous-system-friendly tools to use between appointments, whether that is a grounding technique for a panic wave or a way to quiet the 3am spiral. The pace stays gentle, the support stays steady, and the whole thing fits around your life rather than the other way around.
