Individual counselling on the Gold Coast

When anxiety, low mood, grief, an old hurt or a big change has been sitting on your chest for too long, one-to-one counselling gives you a private place to put it down and understand it. Christina Feyes has counselled people on the Gold Coast since 2012 and holds a Bachelor in Psychology and Social Work. She sees clients in person by appointment, depending on venue and availability, from the Gold Coast to Tamborine Mountain, and online or by phone anywhere in Australia. Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, so there is time to reach the root rather than the surface story.

What is individual counselling?

Individual counselling is one-to-one time with a trained counsellor to talk through what is weighing on you, understand the patterns underneath it, and find a steadier way forward. On the Gold Coast, Christina sees adults and teenagers in person by appointment, or online and by phone. Sessions last 60 to 90 minutes rather than the usual 45, and you do not need a referral. It helps with anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, separation, self-worth and life changes. A free 15-minute assessment is the simplest way to begin.

A word of hope

Hope, even when you cannot see the way through

Many people arrive tired, unsure, and quietly wondering whether things can really change.

If you are reading this, part of you is still looking for a way forward, and that matters. People often come in carrying something they have held on their own for years, and leave a session feeling lighter for finally having said it out loud. Christina’s work is to give that hope somewhere safe to land: a calm, unhurried space where you are heard, the patterns underneath begin to make sense, and small changes start to feel possible again. You do not need to have it all worked out to take the first step.

The reasons people get in touch

Most people reach out well before anything is at breaking point. These are some of the reasons people contact Christina for one-to-one sessions.

  • Your mind will not switch off, and worry has started to shape your days and your sleep.
  • Life looks fine from the outside, but inside everything feels flat, heavy or far away.
  • You are grieving someone, or something, and the people around you expect you to be over it by now.
  • An old experience keeps replaying, and you react in ways that do not feel like you.
  • A relationship has ended, or is ending, and you are trying to work out who you are on the other side.
  • You have tried counselling before and it never quite reached the real thing.

A simpler way in

One-to-one counselling does not have to be complicated

Most people arrive tired of carrying it alone, not sure where to start, and hoping someone will actually listen.

Heard first

Before any technique, you are properly listened to. Many clients say that feeling truly understood is where the change began.

The root, not the surface

Christina pairs evidence-based approaches such as CBT, ACT and schema therapy with intuitive insight, so the work reaches the pattern beneath the symptom.

Time to go deep

Sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, not the usual 45. With room to settle, many people need fewer sessions, and some feel a real shift after the first.

What it can help with

What individual counselling can help with

You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to come. If something has been weighing on you, that is reason enough.

Anxiety and overwhelm

Racing thoughts, panic, constant worry and the tiredness that comes with it. Anxiety counselling

Depression and low mood

When everything feels heavy, flat or pointless, and small tasks take everything you have. Depression counselling

Grief and loss

The death of someone you love, a pregnancy or pet loss, or a loss nobody else seems to see. Grief counselling

Trauma and the past

Paced, trauma-informed work with what still lives in your body and your reactions. Trauma counselling

Separation and change

A breakup, a divorce, a move or a career ending, and finding your feet again afterwards. Separation and divorce

Self-worth and direction

People-pleasing, old patterns, and the quiet sense that you are living someone else’s life. Spiritual counselling

Christina also sees teenagers, with a parent involved where it helps. Read how counselling for teenagers works, or how NDIS counselling works for plan-managed participants.

Reaching out can be the hardest step. Fewer than half of Australian adults with a mental health condition, 46.6 percent, access professional support in a given year, and in Queensland close to a quarter of people aged 16 to 85 lived with a mental disorder in a single twelve month period.

People across the Gold Coast

Why people on the Gold Coast reach out

Plenty of people on the Gold Coast moved here for the lifestyle and now carry hard things a long way from the family and old friends who used to steady them. Shift work in hospitality and tourism, FIFO rosters, renovation-sized mortgages and rising rents all add pressure, and it can feel strange to be struggling in a place everyone else calls paradise. None of that means something is wrong with you.

  • You moved to the coast for a fresh start and feel lonelier than you expected.
  • Long or irregular hours leave no room to stop and notice how you are actually going.
  • Money and housing stress sit in the background of everything.
  • Life looks good in a beautiful place, yet something inside has gone quiet.

Christina has worked with people on the Gold Coast since 2012, and she used to run grief support groups here, so she knows the local services and the pressures of living on the coast. You can also explore all Gold Coast counselling services.

Sessions that fit Gold Coast life

In person from the coast to Tamborine Mountain, or online

Whether you live in Southport, Surfers Paradise, Broadbeach, Burleigh Heads, Palm Beach, Robina, Coomera, Nerang or up in the Hinterland, you can book a session in person by appointment, depending on venue and availability, or let sessions come to you online and by phone.

Some people like sitting in the same room as their counsellor. Others find it easier to open up from their own couch, or to fit a phone session around a shift or a school run. Both work well, and you can move between them. Read more about online and phone counselling on the Gold Coast.

No pressure

You don’t have to book a session

Just take the free 15-minute call. Meet Christina, ask anything, and decide for yourself. If it is not the right fit, you will know, and no one chases you afterwards.

Quick questions

Before you book.

Where do sessions happen, in person or online?

Christina is Gold Coast based. In-person sessions are booked by appointment anywhere from the Gold Coast up to Tamborine Mountain, depending on venue and availability. Online and phone sessions are just as available, from anywhere in Australia, and you can move between the two.

How long is a session?

Most sessions run 60 to 90 minutes, longer than the 45 minutes many counsellors offer. That gives you time to settle in and reach the heart of things, which is why many people need fewer sessions overall.

Do I need a referral or a mental health care plan?

No. You can book directly, with no GP referral and no mental health care plan. Counselling with Christina sits outside Medicare, so if you specifically need a Medicare rebate, a GP and a registered psychologist are the path for that.

Are you a psychologist?

No. Christina is a counsellor with a Bachelor in Psychology and Social Work, and she does not diagnose or prescribe. If you need a diagnosis or medication, she will gladly point you to a GP or a registered psychologist.

How many sessions will I need?

It depends on what you bring. Because sessions are longer, many people need fewer of them, and some feel a real shift after the first. You decide after each session whether to book another, and nobody chases you.

Do you see teenagers?

Yes. Christina sees teenagers as well as adults, with a parent or carer involved where it helps. The free 15-minute assessment is a good way for a parent to ask questions first.

Can I use NDIS funding?

If your NDIS plan is plan-managed, you may be able to claim counselling sessions through it. Ask during the free assessment and Christina will explain how it works.

What if I am in crisis right now?

Counselling is not an emergency service. If you or someone else is in immediate danger, call 000 straight away. Once you are safe, Christina is glad to talk about what support could help next.

What does it cost to find out if this is right for me?

Nothing. You can begin with a free 15-minute assessment, with no card and no obligation, so you can get a real feel for how Christina works before deciding anything.
